DXX-Rebirth
Descent 1 & 2. A masterpiece 3D FPS. Brought back to life with the DXX-Rebirth project. Play Descent as true to the original with OpenGL/ES rendering.
  • DietPi will install the Demo and Shareware versions of Descent. Please see the FAQ below to transfer the full game.
  • Keyboard + Mouse is highly recommended
  • We have compiled the latest version of DXX-Rebirth (0.58.1) with support for FB and RPi OpenGL.
dxx-rebirth.png
Starting DXX-Rebirth
  • DXX-Rebirth can be started by running dxx-rebirth
  • Auto start option is available. Simply run dietpi-autostart and select DXX-Rebith (Descent 1/2) then reboot your system.
Choosing a Pilot
We have created a Pilot called DietPi. The config has been setup for WSAD style play and is recommended for FPS players who use WSAD + Mouse.
  • WSAD = Forward/Backwards/left/right
  • QZ = Up/down
  • ER = Rotate Z (forward) axis
  • F = Launch flare
  • ALT+F2 = Save game

FAQ:
  • How do I transfer the original Descent full game files?
    • Before you begin, you will need the original game files, from a legal copy and installation of Descent.
Make sure you have one of DietPi's File Servers installed.
    • Copy your Descent 1 Game files to /mnt/dietpi_userdata/dxx-rebirth/descent_1_game
    • Copy your Descent 2 Game files to /mnt/dietpi_userdata/dxx-rebirth/descent_2_game

Does my device support GPU acceleration?
Not all devices support GPU acceleration with Chromium.
  • RPis supports native OpenGL and will be configured during installation.
  • Odroids support OpenGLES and will be configured during installation.
  • Other devices will most likely be limited to software rendering.
Where can I check the status of GPU acceleration?
Once Chromium is running, simply go to the following address:
  • chrome://gpu

Deprecation warning: This post is deprecated. Please find our new documentation at: https://dietpi.com/docs/software/cloud/#nextcloud

Nextcloud
Your very own personal cloud based backup/data storage system (eg: Dropbox), with a slick and simple web interface.
- Also Installs: Webserver
- USB dedicated hard drive highly recommended.
nextcloud.png
Access web interface:
url = http://localhost/nextcloud where 'localhost' can be substituted by local server IP or hostname, to access remotely.
username = admin
password = <your global pw>

You may want to configure your Nextcloud from command line via occ command: Nextcloud admin manual
We added a shortcut to the otherwise necessary 'sudo -u www-data php /var/www/nextcloud/occ':
Just use 'ncc' followed by the desired command inside your terminal.

FAQ:
Where is my data stored?
  • /mnt/dietpi_userdata/nextcloud_data (or dietpi.txt choice)
Why am I limited to 2GB file size uploads?
DietPi will automatically apply the max supported upload size to the PHP and Nextcloud configs.
  • 32bit systems can handle 2GB
  • 64bit systems can handle 8796PB, yep, in petabyte
  • echo -e "$(( $(php -r 'print(PHP_INT_MAX);') / 1024 / 1024))MB"
Will my data be saved after uninstallation?
  • Your userdata directory will stay after uninstallation.
  • As well a database backup will be saved to your userdata directory.
  • Thus you can easily restore your instance by reinstalling Nextcloud and restore the database dump.

Deprecation warning: This post is deprecated. Please find our new documentation at: https://dietpi.com/docs/software/system_stats/#webmin

Webmin
Remote system management with web interface.
webmin.png
Access web interface:
  • url = https://192.168.0.100:10000 (NB: Please ensure https URL is typed, http will not function)
  • Username = root
  • Password = root password at time of installation (default: dietpi)
System logging:
The Webmin system logging panel still depends on a classical file logger, like rsyslog. However DietPi will not impose this logging overhead on systems by default. If you need to see system logs via Webmin online panel, you can either configure a custom syslog daemon or install rsyslog manually: apt install rsyslog
DietPi comes with systemd and the related journald system logger, which can be accessed via: journalctl
