I have a 1050ti video card in my PC running the latest stable dietpi. It's connected to my TV via HDMI.
I have no audio. Not on steam, not on YouTube videos.... nothing.
Except when I do a sound test. "speaker-test -c2" works. I can hear the sound from both the left and right as I should. It's device 1,7 which is what I also have set as the default. Still no sound. Nothing is muted (MM).
I'm at a loss and looking for ideas.
I've submitted a bug report:

No sound thru HDMI on PC
Re: No sound thru HDMI on PC
Did you select the correct sound device for HDMI (pcm2,0 is seems) from dietpi-config > Audio Options, respectively adjusted /etc/asound.conf accordingly? Mixer settings or enabling/disabling equalizer might help as well.
