Sound issue With 6V32

Hello,

I experience some strange sound issue with 6V32.

I'm using an I2S DAC with Squeezelite with a bare minimal setup.
From time to time I get a burst of noise .

I still have an old 6V12 similar setup that doesn't have that same issue.
I did an apt-get update, upgrade on that 6V12, still no noise.

Any idea of why this happen ?

Best regards,
Jean

Well, I don't know if I changed something or not, at 6V12, but now I have the very same issue.

It's a small duration burst of noise every few minutes, I should try to measure the interval to see if it's constant or not.

I get it even if the squeezelite service is off.

I thought it could be the fridge, so I shut it off, but still I got the burst of noise.

I will continue to look at this as it is really annoying.

Best regards,
Jean

Ah sorry, Yes I did change something.

6V32 is WiFI connected to my box
6V12 was Hotspot, I changed it to WiFi and since I get the Burst of noise.

I'll continue to investigate.

Hi,

as well you could have a look to kernel messages if there is something related to dropping wifi connections.

Code: Select all

dmesg -l err,crit,alert,emerg
Probably you have the possibility to switch to a wired connection?

Hello,

Just to treport that my problem is not related to Dietpi, I have installed Picore Player and get the same issue.

I have also tried another DAC, same, however I will try two other one, I2S and a USB.

I have tried another network, specifically dedicated to the Audio, still the intermitent burst noise.

I will also try another PI.

Open to ideas/suggestions, thank you

Jean

Joulinar,

Thank you for your suggestion.

I will have a look at that.
You are right that it looks like some issue with wifi drop connection.
I use wifi as my Pi is Pi 3a+

But I will try a Pi 3b+ just for the sake of it.
Then, I will also try another wifi router.

Thank you again,
Jean

Picore vs Dietpi
Note first that the setups are not the same, so, this test it is only valid for going deeper into my understanding.
Picore, is an absolutely minimal setup, only squeezelite running vs Dietpi where I also have LMS, Samba, Failtoban, It looks a little bit better with Picore, I still experience that burst noise but I have the feeling that it is less frequent.

Here is a network report from inside Picore

Should I consider those figure as bad figures ?

well ping times are quite ok. They are between 1ms and 5ms, which is fine for a WiFi connection. But if you experience the noise on Picore as well, I would exclude the OS. Perhaps something on WiFI?? Would be good to test with Ethernet connection.

Hello,

I will test the Ethernet with another Pi but, any away this is not the setup that I want, that's a matter of convenience, my box is far away and I don't want to buy a repeater and have another cable and probably other issues.

Anway, I tried another DAC and its PSRR is much better, the noise is not anymore audible.

So, the best for me, is to use that other DAC.

Thanks,
Jean

Well my intention was not to move to Ethernet completely. Just to verify if it's related to WiFi and to exclude generell issues ;)
