Kodi through HDMI, audio through Hifi Shield 2

Hi. I own an Odroid-C2 with Hifi Shield 2. Sometimes I like to watch sports on Kodi with the sound turned down and listen to music. I'd like the Kodi audio to go to HDMI and the audio from MPD to go to the Hifi Shield which is connected via optical to my receiver. I've configured asound.conf to send audio to HDMI (card 0) and I have mpd.conf configured to output to Hifi Shield (card 1). However, the sound from either Kodi or MPD plays through both devices. Is there a way to make this stop?

root@DietPi:~# aplay -l
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: ODROIDHDMI [ODROID-HDMI], device 0: I2S dit-hifi-0 []
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 1: ODROIDDAC2 [ODROID-DAC2], device 0: I2S pcm512x-hifi-0 []
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

root@DietPi:~# cat /etc/asound.conf
pcm.!default {
type hw
card 0
device 0
}
ctl.!default {
type hw
card 0
}

mpd.conf:
audio_output {
type "alsa"
name "DietPi Alsa"
device "hw:1,0"
format "44100:16:2"
mixer_type "software"
#mixer_control "PCM"
#mixer_index "0"
}

Thanks!
