Getting headless install to reconnect to wifi network after network goes away?

Hi, I have my RPi 3 running DietPi as a headless host and use my smartphone as a wifi hotspot/router. Sometimes when I leave and come back home a few hours later, the RPi will reconnect to the wifi hotspot, but it didn't do so last night. Is there a way to ensure it will periodically look for the ne...

Re: Using streamer and xawtv to capture video from webcam

It captures video without sound when I remove the command line argument for audio format. Since my ancient Logitech webcam probably doesn't have a microphone, this is, as they say, "good enough for government work." Thanks!

Re: Using streamer and xawtv to capture video from webcam

I tried installing oss-compat and osspd. Neither of these solved the missing dsp directory issue.

Using streamer and xawtv to capture video from webcam

streamer is a webcam capture program that is either bundled with xawtv or can be installed separately if not included with the package for your distro. I can capture JPEG stills from the webcam just fine. But when I try to capture an AVI video from the webcam, I get the message: oss: open /dev/dsp: ...

Re: NAS on DietPi?

I forgot to point out that the choice of USB hubs is important if the HDDs don't have their own separate power adapters. Most cheap hubs don't supply power to the connected devices, and the RPi 3 struggles to power even one HDD. The HooToo model above works beautifully. Expect to spend at least $40 ...

Re: NAS on DietPi?

I just set this up tonight. * RPi 3 * 2x refurb Western Digital My Passport 1TB USB HDDs * HooToo HT-UH010 USB hub * Samba The choice of HDDs is tricky. I read that a certain Seagate drive would work when connected through a hub, but found the newer model that replaced it didn't work. On the other h...

Re: crontab support

How do you plan to make a cron task run every few seconds? The lowest frequency that crontab will run is once per minute.

Re: Has anyone used I2C with a language other than Python?

Thanks for the reply, Fourdee. After further research, I concluded that executing i2cset and i2cget as shell commands is probably about as good as it gets for PHP. I found this script by Viacheslav Baczynski on the Web. https://github.com/VBaczynski/phpi2c/blob/master/phpi2c.php While Mr. Baczynski'...

Has anyone used I2C with a language other than Python?

Hi, folks! I'm totally loving DietPi and wish to use my Raspberry Pi for hardware projects. I'm a PHP user, not too crazy about Python. I know how to connect to an Arduino serial port by configuring the Arduino as a modem in PHP. I can also use my TRS-80 Model 100 laptop as a terminal for a PHP sock...

Re: DietPi vs Raspbian Lite!

Count me as another user who had nothing but trouble installing Raspbian. I searched for alternate RPi distros and found DietPi. I was able to get it up and running and connected to my wifi network within minutes! Got my backup and user data set up on a USB thumb drive, and Apache/PHP running with s...
