Re: External HDD Issues

Yeah, checking what was using it was root via mount.

I disabled device power off, which helped because a manual mount didn't timeout. However, transferring files can still cause random I/O errors.

Re: External HDD Issues

Running a few tests with a USB flash drive, I noticed that using dietpi-drive_manager appends x-systemd.automount which makes systemd handle it. The device eventually goes idle and then becomes inaccessible. I can't unmount the drive normally because it's busy according to dietpi-drive_manager, and ...

Re: External HDD Issues

So I did a quick test, if you don't mind me reviving this a bit. I had my Pi's power supply on an Amazon Basics power strip. The only other item plugged into it was my network switch. Shut down the Pi and plugged it directly into the wall, HDMI signal has been on for the past six minutes. If you rec...

Re: External HDD Issues

I really hope that isn't the case. I haven't done anything to this Pi that could cause that. It even worked fine with dietpi several months ago. Is there a diagnostic script I could run or something?

Re: External HDD Issues

Alright, I am confused as to what happened here.

I had plugged in the micro HDMI and my keyboard and maybe after almost a minute, both of them stopped working.
I tried to change input back to HDMI and it refuses. Keyboard stopped working in the middle of trying to run lsblk to check for the USB.

Re: External HDD Issues

I do have another micro SD card. I'll try to raspbian lite. This is the second USB device I've tried with this, so it's weird. I'll report back on how raspbian lite is.

Re: External HDD Issues

Scanned the journal, pretty much the same output as my last post's edit.

Re: External HDD Issues

Right, I unmounted it before the reboot and then scanned for added or removed drives. Nothing came up. Now the Pi has rebooted and it sees the USB drive now.

EDIT: and it just disappeared.

Here's some output I captured: https://pastebin.com/ZiUy0EM8
