Re: Can't log into MineOS - Software password incorrect

sha512 was the default until Debian Buster and is generally seen as secure hashing algorithm. So no, I don't see it as real downside. Also note that this is only relevant if someone had actually read access to the /etc/shadow file to obtain the hash and then still require a high amount of computing ...

Re: Some reinstalls of software after upgrade from Buster to Bullseye fail

Ah yes sorry, the config section was missing. Hmm, and if you start it manually from console:

Code: Select all

sudo -u mariadb /usr/sbin/mariadbd

Re: dietpi 7.6.2 ARMv8 64-bit image xinit: not found

Ah lol I should have scrolled up a little :D. Okay does this work?

Code: Select all

xinit "$(command -v kodi)" --standalone
xterm should not be attempted if the Kodi executable is there. Is it?

Code: Select all

command -v kodi

Re: Some reinstalls of software after upgrade from Buster to Bullseye fail

Can you try whether it shows more output when switching to console log:

Code: Select all

echo 'skip_log_error=1' > /etc/mysql/mariadb.conf.d/99-disable-file-logging.cnf
systemctl restart mariadb
sleep 5
journalctl -u mariadb

I have no idea, didn't head of it yet . Can you share a link to the install instructions or install script you used?

Re: dietpi 7.6.2 ARMv8 64-bit image xinit: not found

A recent live patch should fix it in dietpi-software, but as Kodi was already installed, install the missing X server manually:

Code: Select all

dietpi-software install 6

Re: Can't log into MineOS - Software password incorrect

Okay, getting one step further: chpasswd -c SHA512 <<< 'root:dietpi' restores the login ability. I tried all other (less secure) algorithms listed in: chpasswd --help But none of them works, only SHA512. Interesting now is that when skipping this option, the created hash in /etc/shadow doesn't match...

Re: Can't log into MineOS - Software password incorrect

Fresh install + changed root user password before installing MineOS and it doesn't work in the first place. Login with the "dietpi" user still works (I didn't touch its password). I also tried to fake the password change being in the past: touch -d "2 years ago" /etc/shadow I thi...

Re: Can't log into MineOS - Software password incorrect

It is strange. I was able to replicate it on x86_64 VM Bullseye. When I do a fresh install of MineOS, login works as expected with root user and its UNIX password. But when I change the password via chpasswd <<< 'root:testing' , using that new "testing" password on MineOS does not work, al...
