XU4 cloudshell reboot problem

Hi,

when I do a warm reboot (“reboot” or “shutdown -r now”, eg. after updating kernel), the internal HDD (attached to SATA) in the cloudshell goes away. Only the external USB-connected HDD stays:

root@odroid:~# lsusb -t
/: Bus 06.Port 1: Dev 1, Class=root_hub, Driver=xhci-hcd/1p, 5000M
    |__ Port 1: Dev 2, If 0, Class=Vendor Specific Class, Driver=r8152, 5000M
/: Bus 05.Port 1: Dev 1, Class=root_hub, Driver=xhci-hcd/1p, 480M
/: Bus 04.Port 1: Dev 1, Class=root_hub, Driver=xhci-hcd/1p, 5000M
    |__ Port 1: Dev 2, If 0, Class=Hub, Driver=hub/2p, 5000M
        |__ Port 2: Dev 3, If 0, Class=Mass Storage, Driver=uas, 5000M <-- external USB 3.0 HDD
/: Bus 03.Port 1: Dev 1, Class=root_hub, Driver=xhci-hcd/1p, 480M
    |__ Port 1: Dev 2, If 0, Class=Hub, Driver=hub/2p, 480M
/: Bus 02.Port 1: Dev 1, Class=root_hub, Driver=exynos-ohci/3p, 12M
/: Bus 01.Port 1: Dev 1, Class=root_hub, Driver=exynos-ehci/3p, 480M

At Bus 4 should exist two Mass Storage Devices (one uas, the internal usb-storage). Like here:

root@odroid:~# lsusb -t
/: Bus 06.Port 1: Dev 1, Class=root_hub, Driver=xhci-hcd/1p, 5000M
    |__ Port 1: Dev 2, If 0, Class=Vendor Specific Class, Driver=r8152, 5000M
/: Bus 05.Port 1: Dev 1, Class=root_hub, Driver=xhci-hcd/1p, 480M
/: Bus 04.Port 1: Dev 1, Class=root_hub, Driver=xhci-hcd/1p, 5000M
    |__ Port 1: Dev 2, If 0, Class=Hub, Driver=hub/2p, 5000M
        |__ Port 1: Dev 3, If 0, Class=Mass Storage, Driver=usb-storage, 5000M <-- internal SATA HDD
        |__ Port 2: Dev 4, If 0, Class=Mass Storage, Driver=uas, 5000M <-- external USB 3.0 HDD
/: Bus 03.Port 1: Dev 1, Class=root_hub, Driver=xhci-hcd/1p, 480M
    |__ Port 1: Dev 2, If 0, Class=Hub, Driver=hub/2p, 480M
/: Bus 02.Port 1: Dev 1, Class=root_hub, Driver=exynos-ohci/3p, 12M
/: Bus 01.Port 1: Dev 1, Class=root_hub, Driver=exynos-ehci/3p, 480M

Is there a workaround to get the USB refresh the already connected devices?

Hi,

Which cloudshell?
http://www.hardkernel.com/main/products/prdt_info.php?g_code=G143599699669
http://www.hardkernel.com/main/products/prdt_info.php?g_code=G149142327280

Please verify kernel version:

uname -a

Hi,

It’s the cloudshell 1.

Recent kernel:

root@odroid:~# uname -a
Linux odroid 4.9.44+ #1 SMP PREEMPT Thu Aug 24 12:55:45 UTC 2017 armv7l GNU/Linux

the internal HDD (attached to SATA) in the cloudshell goes away. Only the external USB-connected HDD stays

2 USB drives?

Which power supply? You’ll probably need 5V/6A at the least, 5V/8A possible.

It’s the power supply that came with the CloudShell 1.
The 2nd HDD is powered separately (externally).

Why has that something to do with power?

Some users (including me) report similar issues with insufficient power on the 5V/4A PSU, especially on 500mA+ HDD’s. Odroid offer a 5V/6A PSU which is recommended for cloudshell usage.
I assume you have 5V/4A?

Well, I thought power shouldn’t be a problem anymore when I powered the second HDD externally…
I think I have the 4A power supply, but don’t wanna check because of the uboot bug might lead to some extra work (reimage sd and restore backup) I don’t want to invest my precious time into now.

Unfortunately finding a 5V/6A power supply here in germany is not easy. The ones I found cost 20-30 €. If I order the one from Hardkernel I might end up paying the same (Shipping, Taxes)…
Maybe one has a good idea where to buy a decent power supply in Europe which doesn’t cost that much.

I use this -

One year always on works well.

Interesting. It seems not every problem is caused by underpowering…

I can suggest you this one if you are willing to tinker the hardware a bit:

Its regulated on the 3V lane so to keep it stable on 5V you have to do this:

But then you get 5V up to 8A for almost nothing.

Jep. Komme allerdings kaum noch zum lesen
Danke für den Tipp, werde ich mir mal in Ruhe anschauen. Bin nicht sehr geschickt mit dem Lötkolben…
