I recently installed unbound and pi-hole through dietpi-software. Everything is running smoothly, but I noticed the version of Unbound that was installed is 1.13.1. I looked up what the latest version there is, and it’s 1.15.0. Looking through the newer versions, there seems to be a lot of bug fixes and improvements. Is there a way to update Unbound? I’ve tried running apt update and apt upgrade but it doesn’t seem to grab the latest version.

Thanks for your help in advance.

The version you are looking for is not available via apt package repository. [https://packages.debian.org/search?suite=all&searchon=names&keywords=unbound](https://packages.debian.org/search?suite=all&searchon=names&keywords=unbound)

Means, you would need to compile it yourself from source. [https://unbound.docs.nlnetlabs.nl/en/latest/getting-started/installation.html#id1](https://unbound.docs.nlnetlabs.nl/en/latest/getting-started/installation.html#id1)

Yea, unless it’s not a security update, I guess you have to wait for the next version of Debian / Armbian / Raspberry Pi OS (depending on the device you are using), bc they are all fixed release distros, not rolling release. Or maybe there will be an update before the next version. On what does that depend on?

I wonder how much you could damage your system by compiling it by yourself and replace the old version. I think it depends on how much they changed?!

Thanks for the prompt response. Good to know. I think I’m going to wait then.

Thanks again!

ok but don’t be surprised if it will take until next major Debian release Bookworm (mid of 2023) 😉
