Yes enabling autostart is done by systemctl enable

hmmm after a reboot the Fan runs 100% although the temperature is very low…

A few days ago enabled the service to be started on boot:

there is no benefit of enabling the service again and again and again. Do following if you like to start or restart the service

systemctl start ats #this will start the service
systemctl stop ats #this will stop the service
systemctl restart ats #this will restart the service
systemctl status ats #this will show status of the service
journalctl -u ats #this will show some logs

the command

systemctl enable --now ats

doesn’t enable also ‘autostart’ after a reboot, it just starts ats for the moment?

systemctl enable is enabling the service to start on boot. This is needed only ONCE. It doesn’t need to be done every time again and again.

–now flag is starting the service. But same could be done using systemctl restart ats

So what is causing the problem that after a Reboot and starting ats the Fan keeps running?

honestly I don’t. Probably something to ask the maintainer of the script you are running. Maybe the service is starting to early? For dirty testing, you could add a sleep command into our service file definition. It should be placed within the [Service] section.

That the service is starting too early was my idea as well. Probably journalctl reveals some ordering issue, i.e. ATS service starting and the fan being fully detected later. The sleep 30 should verify that, but probably we are able to find a smarter way by adding an After= definition to make the service start after the identified hardware device.

Seems we can edit the parameter StartLimitIntervalSec=0

but this parameter did not delay the start.

This may be the device, but ATS is starting afterwards.

However, to rule it out, please try the following:

mkdir -p /etc/systemd/system/ats.service.d
echo -e '[Unit]\nAfter=getty.target' > /etc/systemd/system/ats.service.d/start-later.conf

But also there is another interesting log:

Jan 18 22:24:47 DietPi systemd[1]: Configuration file /usr/local/lib/luarocks/rocks/ats/master-0/ats.service is marked world-inaccessible. This has no effect as configuration data is accessible via APIs without restrictions. Proceeding anyway.

This file is also shown by systemctl cat ats and I’m wondering why/how systemd even tries to read files at that path, probably a symlink?

ls -l /lib/systemd/system/ats.service
ls -l /usr/local/lib/luarocks/rocks/ats/master-0/ats.service
