Orange pi 3b NVME problem

my disk is definitely broken by orange pi or I was very unlucky, I tried to connect it to the orange pi again and it was no longer detected there via lspci

Same behavior here, the funny thing is, the NVME worked before, then after reboot it is hot as hell. But it’s not damaged since it works using an USB adapter case. Also, others NVME are working fine, the problem is just that one!

Hi guys,

Just signed up to say I’m having a very similar (if not identical) problem here with a NanoPi R5S.

dmesg -l 0,1,2,3 returns

pci 0002:01:00.0: calc_l12_pwron: Invalid T_PwrOn scale: 3
pci 0002:01:00.0: BAR0: error updating (0xf0200004 != 0xffffffff)
pci 0002:01:00.0: BAR0: error updating (high 0x00000000 != 0xffffffff)
pci 0002:01:00.0: BAR4: error updating (0xf0204004 != 0xffffffff)
pci 0002:01:00.0: BAR4: error updating (high 0x00000000 != 0xffffffff)

lspci returns

0002:01:00.0 Non-Volatile memory controller: Sandisk Corp HD Blue SN570 NVMe SSD 1TB

The SSD never appears in /dev

What I’ve noticed and I’ve been playing around a lot with this, is that it only appears to be an issue on Debian Bookworm (haven’t tried Bullseye) based systems. Both Ubuntu Focal and FriendlyWRT/OpenWrt 23.05.x are able to see and mount the SSD.

I tried to follow the instructions at https://github.com/inindev/nanopi-r5 to put vanilla Bookworm on this device and I can install it to and boot from the eMMC, but the instructions say I should be able to install to the NVMe and bootstrap from the eMMC, but this vanilla Debian also doesn’t recognise the SSD.

Anyway, just in case this helps anyone, seems specific to Debian.

EDIT: Just tried with FriendlyCore Focal which is FriendlyARMs own packaged Focal image for this SBC and again the NVMe SSD is shown in lsblk. I don’t have another NVMe SSD to try at the moment, but as other OSs will recognise the SSD, my money’s on a Debian issue.

Dear @MichaIng If you are building a new image for OPi-3b kindly add Mesa VPU decoding capabilities in image. Kodi is strictly unusable as of now. This image has it all however Wifi is not working: reddit-Gdrive link
