You would need to install it first sudo apt install gdisk, maybe you can give it a try.
OK so installed gdisk ran the code like you said to destroy the GPT data and blank out mbr - tried to format through drive_manager - same thing 
so both gdisk and fdisk are showing input/output error
Is it even possible that these disks only work with Windows? That isn’t a thing is it?? Bloody Seagate!
An idea is to exchange the disks with their cabling (cross-change) to see whether the problem moves with the disk.
Man I popped one of these drives open and it doesn’t look right it’s got a bloody weight glued inside - good ol’ eBay no wonder they don’t work correctly would never have known if I was just using on windows - sorry for wasting your time

Yeah got to watch out these days - all the packaging was legit Seagate with instructions/warranty papers. Don’t know how they managed to get it to report 5tb when connected though?
